Keeping in touch with your customers is essential.  There are lots of ways to do that these days but one of the most effective is still with an email newsletter.  The MailChimp Newsletter Plugin for Zen Cart is the best option for several reasons.

  • Integration is seamless (better than any other service).
  • Free and low cost accounts available.
  • MailChimp integrates with Google Analytics and social media.
  • Many, many email templates including mobile.
  • Improved deliverability.

The built-in Zen Cart Newsletter is little more than an email sender.  It is not a full functioning newsletter service so if you’re going to send a newsletter, you really need something else.

There are many top-tier newsletter services in addition to MailChimp, such as Constant Contact, iContact and Aweber.  To be sure, there are differences but they all allow the creation of newsletter lists, schedule and send newsletters and report on the results.

The reason we recommend the MailChimp Newsletter is due to the integration with Zen Cart.  All services will allow for the addition of a subscribe box on your website.  This allows a visitor, at any time, to simply subscribe to your newsletter.  MailChimp goes one step further.  When a customer creates an account during the order process, there is a check box to subscribe to your newsletter (see image).  Newsletter Check BoxThis, by default, is the Zen Cart newsletter.  The MailChimp Plugin for Zen Cart takes over this check box and subscribes your new customer to your MailChimp newsletter instead.  No other newsletter service offers this.

The advantage is that it’s so simple for your customer to subscribe.  Just check the box.  For the others, your customer would have to also fill out the subscribe form entering their information a second time. You do want to make it easy for your customer, right?

MailChimp offers a free account to get started and various levels of paid accounts. Emails can be scheduled to be sent at a later date, links can be tagged with Google Analytics code to track the traffic and sales results, Twitter and Facebook integration is built-in as well.

We’ve used MailChimp for the last several years and have been pleased with support, functions and continued development.  If you don’t have any account with them, you can sign-up for MailChimp here.

Once you do, you can order installation of the MailChimp Newsletter Plugin for Zen Cart from our website.
